Seeing the same élevage as the 2016, the 2015 Vatan offers a slightly more saturated color as well as smoking good notes of blackcurrants, smoked earth, melted licorice, violets, and dark chocolate. Fabulous on the palate as well, with full-bodied richness, flawless balance, ripe tannins, and a great, great finish, it's a primordial baby at the moment, yet this thrilling wine could compete with wine costing 3-4 times the price
A recent project from importer Jorge Ordonez, Vatan comes from 6 hectares of vineyard planted in 1943, however, there is a 1hectare plot within this vineyard that was planted in 1910. The average yield of the vineyard is approximately 1 ton. Fermented in stainless steel and transferred in new Burgundy and Bordeaux barrels for malolactic fermentation. It is aged for 22mos. It has been a lifelong pursuit of Jorge Ordonez to resurrect the wine industry in DO Toro and with powerful wines like this one, no wonder the wine world is taking notice.
