This rich red leads off with smoky notes of espresso and tar, accenting a core of ripe currant, licorice and iron. The palate is dense, with muscular tannins and balsamic acidity. Austere but harmonious. Drink now through 2030. 1,250 cases made, 800 cases imported. — TM
A recent project from importer Jorge Ordonez, Vatan comes from 6 hectares of vineyard planted in 1943, however, there is a 1hectare plot within this vineyard that was planted in 1910. The average yield of the vineyard is approximately 1 ton. Fermented in stainless steel and transferred in new Burgundy and Bordeaux barrels for malolactic fermentation. It is aged for 22mos. It has been a lifelong pursuit of Jorge Ordonez to resurrect the wine industry in DO Toro and with powerful wines like this one, no wonder the wine world is taking notice.
